Rugby return update

22 May 2020 by Dan Hogg

With the potential relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions we are anticipating and planning for a return to playing Rugby Union early in Term 3. As a club the Steamers want to ensure that we are giving kids the best opportunity to play rugby this year.
We are seeking expressions of interest for training commencing Friday 5th June. The training sessions during June will be restricted, including but not limited to

1. Training in groups of no more than 10, in a defined training area
2. No contact for at least the first 2 weeks
3. Strict hygiene requirements including
a. Equipment cleaned and sanitized before and after training
b. No use of changerooms at grounds
c. 1 parent allowed per child whilst training

It will then be a staged approach as restrictions ease, and Rugby Australia have mandated a minimum of 4 weeks of ‘normal’ training (ie full contact, no group limits) before competitions can commence

We do recognize that we need a lot of things to ‘fall our way’ for restrictions to be lifted, however I could think of nothing worse than being in a position where we can play footy but we’re not able to because we’re not ready!

If players or parents can please either let their coaches know by Monday 25th May if they are intending on starting training in June so we can get organized as a club that would be great. If you are unsure of who your coach is but would like to train please let me know via email or text (along with what team you’ll be playing in).

Looking forward to seeing you down at Murrayfield soon!
