Steamers Family,
We are writing to you to inform you of the current state of play regarding Covid-19 and Rugby. Yesterday we received notifications from Rugby Australia and Raelene Castle (we have provided links to the notices), we encourage you to read them in their entirety.
In short, Rugby Australia has ceased all Club rugby and training until the 1st of May.
What does this mean for the Albury Steamers?
We are putting everything on hold. There will be no games, no training, no gatherings endorsed by the Steamers until we get further notice from Rugby Australia. This is a time to concentrate on yourself and your family – stay close to home, literally and figuratively.
We are asking SIRU the same questions you have – What happens to paid registrations? What form will a new season take? What happens if the season is cancelled? What happens to Gala Days? etc. We will let you know as we find out. The SIRU board is meeting on Wednesday night, where these questions will start to be addressed.
In the meantime, the committee will ask our Steamer coaches to develop a “Training in Isolation” package over the next few days. This package may include pushup challenges, private beep tests, training alone with a football etc. We are confident our coaching group will develop some difficult and fun challenges. Regardless of wether our season goes ahead after the 1st of May or not, these will be good habits to develop.
Further to our training package, we also encourage every single member of our club to commence the online coaching package. Start with the Smart Rugby module and work upwards from there. It is a great resource and well worth the time. We will also arrange for our coaching group to send out links to quality on line rugby resources. Let’s make sure the Steamers come out the other side of this as the most educated Rugby club on the planet!!
The Club will use our 3 Facebook pages to disseminate information regarding coaching resources, so stay linked in there.
